Therapeutic Effects of Toxylac 1.5gm Injection
Ampicillin, classified as a penicillin-type antibiotic within the beta-lactam class, works by impeding the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. The integrity of bacterial cell walls is crucial for their survival and protection. Ampicillin disrupts the activity of enzymes responsible for building the bacterial cell wall, leading to its weakening and eventual breakdown (lysis).
Sulbactam serves as a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Beta-lactamase, an enzyme produced by certain bacteria, is involved in breaking down and deactivating beta-lactam antibiotics, including penicillins. The combination of sulbactam with ampicillin enhances the medication’s efficacy against bacteria that produce beta-lactamases. Sulbactam inhibits the action of these enzymes, preventing them from degrading ampicillin. Consequently, ampicillin remains active, allowing it to exert its antibacterial effect.
